COLOUR ME MONDAY | Our Shamayne's New Eco-Prints Using Flowers ...

Shamayne H. features on our Ethical Database as a freelance print designer and we were eager to show you her most recent ethical print work, which is fresh back from a London exhibit.

Dedicated to colour, Shamayne's collection explores our connection to emotion. Initially inspired by postwar vintage florals, Shamayne developed her research by applying her unique perspective of seeing delicacy in the decaying and by exploring the subtly imperfect.

The process was driven heavily by experimenting with different techniques and collaborations, which led to innovative outcomes.

Resists, for example, were made through variations on the traditional Shibori technique. The idea of adapting such a traditional technique like Shibori, was particularly inspired by Shamayne's influences (and designers we also love), the eco textile artists Liz Plummer and India Flint.

All fabrics within the collection were hand-dyed using natural dyes: tea, naturally rusted elements, iron and tin mordants. The addition of lilies, roses and tulips, helped to create the gorgeously subtle and delicate prints.

Shamayne's collection was received extremely well and we can't wait to see her next round of eco-dyed creations!
