It’s time to re-evaluate your wardrobe!
Around 30% of clothes in the household wardrobe have been unused for at
least a year. This is worth over £1,000 per household or £30 billion
across the UK!
The average lifetime for a garment is 2.2
years. Extending the life of clothing by an extra nine months of active
use would reduce carbon, waste and water footprints by around 20-30%
each. It could save £5 billion a year from the costs of resources used
in clothing supply, laundry and disposal.
There are many ways
can all change this; by wearing our clothes for longer, reworking the
style and wearing them in a new way or repairing and up-cycling them.
Or if you really are not going to wear it again there are even more
choices; pass it on to a friend or family member, donate to charity or
re–sell yourself to make some money.
Clothing should NEVER be
thrown in the bin! Nearly a third of waste clothing goes into landfill,
if this clothing was given the chance to be reused it would generate
over £140 million of additional income to charities, local authorities
or other organisations for re-use and recycling.
Have a think about what you could do with all those forgotten items in your wardrobe!
